The food in China is much different from which in Canada. Most of the food in China needs to be cooked, even the vegetables, while in Canada most of the people prefer raw vegetable as salad. The meat in Chinese table must be totally cooked, sometimes overcooked. However, most of the people in Canada cook the steak to be medium rare. Whereas cooking Chinese food needs so much oil that some people say Chinese food is oil food, the Canadian food needs less oil and is more healthy. Although most of Canadian staple food is made by baking, Chinese staple food is always made by boiling or steaming. I think the difference in food can be explained by different history and nature conditions of the two countries. While China is an old eastern country, Canada has the Heritage from European countries.
The entertainment habits of Chinese and Canadian people are different. Unlike Canadian people, Chinese people enjoy silence in their spare time. Partly because of the good weather, Chinese people have more opportunities to go outside so that most of the Chinese people like staying at home, watching TV or playing games. However, the winter is very long in most of Canada so that when they have chances, Canadian people like going outside to contact the nature. In addition to spare time, Chinese people always cook in their homes or go to a formal restaurant when they need a party. China has long and complicate alcoholic culture. Chinese people are always restraint in the party because of the table manners. However, Canadian people prefer going to pub and enjoy the noise. They are more open and free in the social association. Another aspect is sport hobby. Whereas Canadian people prefer the sports which have more challenge, risk and group cooperation, like free skiing, rock climbing and hockey, Chinese people prefer the sports stoical and having less risk, for example, square dancing, table tennis, and badminton. The reasons may be climate difference and people's social characters.
